I love pasties, so I thought I'd take a shot at making my own.

We ate ours hot out of the oven with chips and veg.

Ingredients

  • Roll of puff pastry
  • 400g beef mince
  • 1/2 an Onion
  • 1 large potato
  • Ground black pepper
  • Grated carrot
  • Frozen peas (optional)
  • Small amount of flour

Method

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180c
  2. Peel and dice the potato
  3. Dice the Onion
  4. Put a little oil into a pan and start browning the mince
  5. Add the onion, potato and grated carrot
  6. Stir in some frozen peas
  7. Grind some pepper onto the meat (if you like your pasties peppery then you need a lot)
  8. Continue to cook the mixture until the mince is lightly browned
  9. Tip the mix out of the pan into a large bowl and set aside to cool
  10. Put down some flour to stop the pastry sticking
  11. Roll out the pastry and cut around a bowl to get a round bit of pastry
  12. Carefully spoon some mince mix into the centre of the pastry round
  13. Lift the sides of the pastry upwards (as if you were getting ready to roll a Fajita) and crimp the edges together, working around until the pastry is sealed
  14. Carefully place onto a baking tray
  15. Cut another circle, and repeat
  16. When needed, bundle bits of pastry together and roll flat ready to cut another circle
  17. Once your pasties are made, put the tray into the oven for 25 minutes
  18. Serve hot, or allow to cool
