Potato Dauphinoise

Known as dolphin potatoes in our house, these are rich, creamy and filling.

Cooking Time

Prep: 10 mins
Cooking: 90 mins
Total: 100 mins




  • 4 large potatoes
  • 500ml double cream
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 250g grated cheddar cheese
  • Black pepper


  1. Set the oven pre-heating to 180c
  2. Peel the potatoes and then slice them into slices around 1cm thick
  3. Lay the potatoes in a heatproof dish
  4. Peel the garlic and crush it over the potato
  5. Grind some black pepper over the potato
  6. Stir the garlic and pepper through (then re-arrange the potaoes so they're layered again)
  7. Use a spoon to press down on the potatoes and flatten them out a bit
  8. Pour the cream into the dish, you want it to come up to about half way up the top layer
  9. Sprinkle the grated cheese over the top
  10. Put in the oven for 90 minutes
